Jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award-winner was born on February 20 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson and the former Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy was the eldest of six children. Nancy was greatly influenced as a girl by the music her father was a fan of and played at her home. As young as four, Nancy knew her destiny was to be an artist. Her talents were developed when she sang in the choir of her church. After high school, she began to appear frequently in Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when she was crowned the winner of the TV talent show. She began working in night clubs at that same age. Nancy was 17 at the time she completed high school. After enrolling at Ohio Central State College - today Central State University - for only one semester Nancy left to be professional performers. She recorded her first record with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band in 1956. They toured from 1956 to 1958. While in the group Nancy released her first record on Dot Records. Cannonball addederley suggested she move into New York for her career after which she relocated into The Big Town. Within one month, she got an offer to sing at The Blue Morocco Night Club on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her and signed her. A contract was formalized with Capitol Records in the year 1960. That year, she released her first single. Guess Who I See Today? Capitol released 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. She initially focused on rhythm and blues under Adderley's influence she moved away from R&B and began to embrace jazz and torch songs. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley formed a band in 1962. This led to her rise up in the chart. The year 1963 was when she achieved the biggest success through Tell Me the Truth. The singer was offered a position in New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's premier club.
